Doug Carter was born on June 15th, 1973 in the small town of Paducah, KY. From an early age, it was apparent that music would play a big part in his life. At the age of 6 years old, he found interest in the piano and began exploring music and learning to play. The only piano at his home was an old upright player piano. It was too large to fit inside the family s mobile home, so it was placed in the garage. The summer heat was very intense, but Doug stayed at the piano until almost the point of exhaustion at times. Eventually, another piano was purchased and placed inside the home where he could work as long as he wanted while becoming more advanced on the piano.
Throughout his childhood and teenage years, Doug studied under several private piano instructors. During these years, he also took every opportunity to perform in front of audiences. While in his early teens, Doug was exposed to a primitive kind of gospel music that showcased very interesting chord changes and intricate
vocal harmonies. While this genre was lacking in many ways, these voicings really caught his ear and opened his mind to some unconventional musical possibilities. These teenage years also gave Doug the opportunities to expand his musical ideas in the recording studio environment.
Soon after reaching the age of 18, Doug hit the road for the first time. Touring opportunities included different regional and national acts which allowed him to continue to grow both as a musician, and a performer. After moving to Nashville in 1998, Doug almost instantly became plugged in with some of country music’s most awarded artists and industry veterans. He toured with many national and international artists beginning in 1999. The late 90s and early
2000s brought opportunities to tour and record with multiple Grammy© and Gospel Music Award winning artists.
In September of 2001, Doug began touring with country music legend, and American icon Lee Greenwood. To this day, Doug is Lee’s musical director and band leader. During this time he has performed in over 9 different countries to literally millions of people. In addition to this he has also performed in front of numerous United States Presidents. Off the touring stages, Doug has enjoyed the opportunity to write music for various film scores, animated videos, and commercial ad campaigns.
Currently, Doug is as busy as ever. He stays extremely busy with recording sessions and various tours with multiple bands and artists. Whether he’s performing the most iconic hits with Lee Greenwood, wowing audiences with his own Mixtape 80s Tribute Band, or rocking stages everywhere with Joey Belladonna and Beyond Frontiers, you can bet Doug has his hands on the keys and a huge smile on his face!
